A brick breaker game with demon seals
Seal Breaker is a free brick breaker game that runs in your browser. A ball, a paddle and a wall of demon seals: bounce the ball into the seals until the board is clear, then do it again on a faster tablet. There is no download and no sign-up.
The twist is the halo. Destroy a seal and there is an 11 percent chance it drops a halo. Catch it with the paddle and your wings spread wider for ten seconds. The levels never end, you have three lives, and the ball gets quicker the longer a rally lasts.
How to play Seal Breaker
- Press Space or tap the board to launch the ball. It waits on the paddle until you do, and leaves at a slightly random angle.
- Move the paddle under the ball so it bounces back up. Where the ball lands on the paddle sets the angle: the centre sends it straight up, the edges send it out at up to about 60 degrees.
- Break every seal. Red seals fall to one hit, gold seals need two.
- Let a falling halo land on the paddle to make it about 48 percent wider for ten seconds.
- Clear the board to reach the next tablet. If the ball drops past the bottom edge you lose a wing, and with three wings gone the game is over.
Controls
- Keyboard: ← → or A D move the paddle, Space launches the ball.
- Mouse: move the pointer over the board to steer, click to launch.
- Touch: drag across the board. A tap places the paddle and launches the ball in one go. There is no pause button on a phone.
- P pauses, R restarts the run, Enter or Space starts again after game over, Esc goes back to the game list.
Scoring and rules
A red seal is worth 10 points. A gold seal takes two hits: 5 points for the first and 10 for the second. Clearing a board adds 100 and catching a halo adds 50. Losing the ball costs a wing, not points.
Wings carry over from one tablet to the next and reset only on a new game. The layout repeats every three tablets (a full wall, a checkerboard, then a wall with gold seals), but the ball launches faster each time until it reaches its top launch speed at tablet 13. Inside a tablet it also speeds up 3 percent with every paddle hit, so a long rally with no seals breaking makes the game harder, not safer.
Tips to score higher
- Steer with the edges of the paddle. A hit near the end sends the ball out at a sharp angle, which is how you reach seals in the corners.
- Finish seals instead of chipping them. Only a destroyed seal can drop a halo, and the first hit on a gold seal never does.
- Do not let long rallies go on without breaking anything. The ball gains 3 percent speed per paddle hit until you launch again.
- Keep the ball alive while a halo is active. The wide paddle lasts ten seconds, and losing a wing sets it back to normal.
- On touch, tap and drag in one movement. The tap puts the paddle under your finger and launches the ball.
